Tuxedo Jacket

Your tuxedo jacket should allow free movement of the arms, shouldn’t feel snug in the armholes, and lie smoothly across the back. The hem of the coat should reach to the curl of the fingers, when arms are held straight down at the sides, revealing a 1/2 –inch of the shirt cuff.  Wear a dress shirt when you are measured, a bulky sweater or sweatshirt will alter your measurements.  Young boys should be measured in the same manner as adults.  Please include the boys age.

Tuxedo Pants

Tuxedo trousers should always be hemmed without a cuff. The perfect length pant leg breaks slightly on top of the shoe and angles a bit downward in back.

Tuxedo Shoes

Black dress socks and shoes should be worn with a black or dark-colored tuxedo. White socks and shoes should be worn with a white tuxedo.  Wear a lightweight pair of dress socks when fitting shoes.  A thick pair or athletic or boot socks will alter your measurements.

Tuxedo Accessories

Wear a cummerbund with suspenders, but never a vest. Shirt sleeves should extend just beyond jacket sleeves (about on-half inch). Cufflinks should match studs. A boutonniere should be worn on the left lapel and tilted slightly outward.

To Measure Height:

Stand against a wall (shoeless). Place a flat ruler across top of head to wall. Measure from that point down to the floor.
The following guide will show you the appropriate length for your jacket.

  • 5’4” to 5’7” = Short

  • 5’7 ½” to 5’11” = Regular

  • 5’11 ½” to 6’2 ½” = Long

  • 6’3” + Up = Extra Long

To Measure Chest:

Bring tape measure around the widest part of your chest, under your arms, completely around your torso. The average man will have a 6 inch difference between chest size and waist size (i.e. 44 chest will have 38 waist).

To measure Waist:

Waist measurement should be no different than your normal waist size when you purchase a pair of trousers. However, if you would like to measure, measure around the smallest part of the natural waist.

To Measure Inseam:

Measure along the inner seam from the crotch to the bottom of pant leg

To Measure Sleeve:

Start measurement in the middle of your back, just under your neck, over your shoulder, around your bent elbow, to your wrist bone.
